Tutorial - Easy MK4 Space Marine Helmets

In last week's Weekly Snapshot, I went from a default MKVII Space Marine helmet, to an MKIV.

So how would one achieve such a thing?
First of all, make sure you have these:
  • An MKVII SM helmet
  • Some form of sculpting tools
  • Sculpting putty (I used Green Stuff)
  • Your hands

1) Here it is, an unassuming ordinary SM helmet. He'll look completely different after step 6!

2) Remove the wires on the sides of his mouth, and sand or file down the rough edges. (I have no idea what they're called) Grab a teeeeeny ball of Green Stuff (GS) and plonk it down on the helmet's mouth.

3) Push and disperse the GS from the centre.

4) Try to smooth the surface out. I like to put water on a flat sculpting tool and run it gently over the surface.

5) Imagine where the new mouth will be, in the centre. Poke a hole in it. Gradually form the hole into a triangle shape.

6) See the centre? You'll want to add definition to it, so push a little bit of the GS up so that a nice line will form in the centre. At this stage, you'll want to make sure that any blemishes in the surface are removed and completely smooth.
Wait for it to cure completely before painting.

And the finished product with paint is up at the top of this post!

Hope you enjoyed!
